How to Draw a Soccer Coach

While it may seem intimidating at first, drawing a football coach is very easy. If you completed our lessons on how to draw a football player or a football referee, you will have a very easy time in today’s lesson. If you haven’t gotten to those lessons yet, don’t worry. We will cover similar steps in this lesson.

As always, to help you complete the lesson without any problem, we encourage you to go through the steps we will be following in today’s lesson. Review the below image so that you have an overview of what we will be doing.

Our Steps for Drawing a Football Coach

Step 1: Draw the Hair

The first thing we are going to do is draw the hair. The hair is the topmost part of our drawing and thus we will draw it at the very top of our drawing paper.

To draw the hair, use curved lines to achieve a shape similar to the one we have below. Don’t make the drawing too big because we need the space for the rest of the drawing.

  • Use wavy lines to draw the coach’s hair at the top of your drawing paper

Step 2: Draw the Face

We are going to add a face right below the hair. In our drawing, our coach is facing to the right. Draw an oval shape below the hair. In the oval shape, add the eyes, nose, and mouth. We will also add an ear to the left part of the oval shape. Here is what our drawing looks like.

  • Add an oval shape that fits beneath the hair
  • In the oval shape, add the eyes, nose and mouth
  • Add a ear to the left side of the oval shape right below the hairline

Step 3: Draw the Jersey

During a live match, the football coach rarely wears a jersey. They usually wear casual clothing. However, it is not uncommon to find the coach in a jersey during the training session. That is why our coach in today’s drawing will be wearing a coach jersey.

The first thing we are going to do is give our coach a neck. Draw two vertical lines below the face of the coach. Next, connect the base of the two vertical lines with a curved line that bends downwards. The curved line will serve as the collar of our jersey.

We are now going to add the shoulder and sleeves. Start by using a slightly bent line that extends to the left from the top part of the curved line. The line should also curve downwards and extend slightly before bending towards the right, diagonally, and then towards the top to form the right sleeve. Repeat the process for the left sleeve but this time bend the lines in the opposite direction.

For the body of the jersey, start by adding two vertical lines starting from the armpits and extending downwards. We will then connect the lines at the bottom. As you can see in our illustration below, the lines don’t need to be smooth because this is a jersey that is being worn.

  • Add two vertical lines below the face to form the neck of the coach. Connect the two lines with a curved line to form the collar of the jersey
  • Use diagonal and curved lines to form the sleeves of the jersey
  • Use two vertical lines starting from the armpit and extending down to form the body of the jersey.

Step 4: Draw the Arms

Our coach will have his arms akimbo. To draw them, start by adding the right arm. using a curved line that starts from the left part of the sleeve. Bend the line slightly to form the elbow, and extend it toward the bottom of the jersey.

To complete the drawing of the right arm, we will add another line starting from the right part of the sleeve. Make it somewhat parallel to the first line. At the base of the jersey, we will widen the space between the two lines in order to form the palm. We will then add four fingers since the thumb is hidden.

For the left arm, repeat the process. The only difference is that we will not be able to add the fingers because they will be hidden behind the football coach’s body.

  • Use a curved line starting from the left part of the sleeve and extend it to the bottom part of the sleeve to form the outer part of the right arm.
  • Add another curved line, somewhat parallel to the first one, and widen it at the base to complete the right arm.
  • Add four fingers at the bottom of the two curved lines
  • Repeat the process to draw the left arm. Don’t add the fingers because they will be hidden behind the coach’s body.

Step 5: Draw the Shorts

Just like the soccer players, our football coach will be wearing shorts. To add them, we will start by drawing a diagonal line that slants toward the left. The line will start below the fingers of the right hand. We are going to add another diagonal line starting from the bottom of the jersey on the right and slanting towards the right.

Next, we will add an inverted V-shape between the two diagonal lines. Connect the V-shape to the sides of the diagonal lines we added earlier using a curved line at the bottom..

  • Add two diagonal lines starting below the fingers of the coach
  • Add a V-shape between the two diagonal lines
  • Connect the diagonal lines to the V-shape using curved lines

Step 6: Draw the Legs

We are now going to give our football coach legs. For this, we will use curved lines to draw the right and left leg. As you can see from our illustration below, the left foot is flat on the floor while the right foot is not. Try and replicate what we have below. Don’t forget to widen the area before the feet for the calves.

Step 7: Draw the Boots and Socks

Football coaches don’t walk barefoot. They wear soccer cleats. These are boots similar to the ones worn by other soccer players.

For the soccer boots, we will simply add a curved line at the ankles. That will depict that the coach is wearing boots. Next, we are going to add the socks by drawing three curved lines below each knee.

  • Add a curved line at the ankle to show the coach is wearing boots
  • Add two curved lines below the knees to indicate the coach is wearing socks

Step 8: Draw the Whistle

Communication on the field, while practicing or playing a soccer match, is done using a whistle. The football coach blows the whistle to get the attention of the players. For easy access, the whistle is usually hung around the neck of the coach. This is what we will be drawing next.

On the chest of the football coach, add a small, tube-like shape. This will serve as the whistle. We are then going to add a V-shape that connects to the whistle and curves upwards to the sides of the coach’s neck. This will show that the whistle is hung around the neck of the coach.

  • Draw a tube-like shape on the chest of the coach to represent the whistle.
  • Draw a V-shape that connects to the whistle and extends up to the sides of the coach’s neck.

Take the Drawing to the Next Level

There is no harm in leaving the drawing as it is. You must, however, keep in mind that it will be a boring drawing. To make it more interesting, there is one crucial thing you need to do: color it.

Step 11: Color Your Drawing

The final step is the most fun. It is all about adding color to the drawing. Take out your coloring supplies and show us how good you are at coloring. Keep in mind that this is your drawing so you can use just any color that you want. You simply need to make sure that the colors don’t spill outside the areas you are coloring.

Conclusion

Drawing a soccer coach is a lot of fun when you know what needs to be done. In our drawing, we started by adding the hair and the face. We then drew the jersey, arms, shorts, and legs. We then added the boots and socks. To distinguish our football coach from other players, we added a whistle around his neck and wrote the name ‘Coach’ on his jersey. We advanced our drawing by coloring it.

You can use these steps to draw a female football coach. Moreover, if you remove the whistle and the name coach, you can turn the drawing into a soccer player. You should also not hesitate to add some background to your drawing.
